Educator & Librarian Workshop: Altered Books
Sunday, February 25, 2018, 10:00am – 12:00pm
(rescheduled from January)
An altered book is a sculptural book form that takes inspiration from the original content of a used book to become an art work in and of itself. Starting with a stack of used books and a series of exercises meant to prompt creativity, we’ll explore different methods of alternation from changing the text, to collage, painting and cutting. We’ll look at examples of successful altered books, from Marcel Duchamp’s Unhappy Readymade to Tom Phillips’ A Humument.
This workshop is for librarians and teachers to gain skills and ideas that they can offer to the public in their institutions and classrooms. Book arts and bookbinding workshops offer a great point of entry to the love of books, reading and writing.
– $10 sliding scale for educators or librarians, all materials included.
