I am so excited to be part of a print portfolio ce

I am so excited to be part of a print portfolio celebrating the 100th Anniverary of the 19th Amendment. I could've chosen anyone, but I chose to print this very Victorian design about Susan B Anthony because I hung out by her grave a lot as a teenager (it was the early 1990's) but all I could remember about her & the 19th Amendment were a few dry facts, stuff you memorize to pass tests in high school. In the last month, I've read a book of her speeches, and a lot about the 19th Amendment. Our lives are full of reminders that the real history of our country is so much more interesting (and horrible and sometimes magnificient) than what we first learned in school. The right to vote has been a primary battle for so many people and we should all be thrilled with excitement and life everytime we get to vote (as Obama said in John Lewis's eulogy).

Also Lousiana, where I live now, was the last state to ratify the 19th Amendment, in 1970 (!!) which supports my feeling that American government has always devalued women and our voices. Susan B knew this in 1880! Thanks to @blackbirdletterpress for organizing this portfolio and giving me a chance to relearn about my roots.
