Paper & Pints with The Itinerant Printer!
Join The Southern Letterpress and Oma Darlin’ Press on Friday, February 13th, from 7:00-9:00 pm, at our studio in Gulfport, FL, as we welcome Visiting Artist Chris Fritton, The Itinerant Printer, for our monthly Paper & Pints! Enjoy locally crafted beer by our friends at Cycle Brewing and Peg’s Cantina & Brew Pub while taking part in a cross-county letterpress printing project!
For our February session, Chris will introduce us to the Itinerant Printer project, an ambitious cross-country journey that will take him to all 48 contiguous states. At the event, we will work with Chris to produce a unique print culled from our idiosyncratic collection of antique wood type, metal type, cuts, ornaments, and photopolymer plates. These prints will be mailed back to followers and supporters of the project as postcards (and care packages) from the road.
The project intends to capture the spirit of the analog revival, send real samples of it to people’s mailboxes, and convey the ethos of the handmade revival to a broader audience via social media. But it’s not just another travel blog – as a culmination, it will result in a coffee table book that features photos all of the prints, printshops, and people from the trek. You can learn more about the project at http://
For just $10, you can enjoy Chris’ demo and walk away with your very own copy of the hand-crafted, limited edition postcard, designed especially for Paper & Pints! FREE local craft beer will be on-hand for all attendees (ages 21 and over, of course). Register now by sending us an e-mail to print(at)thesouthernletterpress.com or by submitting an RSVP on our Facebook event page. Your registration fees can be paid on-site via cash, check, credit or debit card. We hope to see you there!
